Set it up in three steps

  1. Install the app

Download it above and open the file. Android asks you to allow installs from your browser or files app; allow it once.

  2. Add the phone in PHPNuxBill

Open Routely, then SMS gateways, and add an Android phone. A QR code and a pairing code appear.

  3. Scan the code

In the app tap Scan QR code. If the camera will not work, tap Enter the code instead and type it. The dashboard shows Phone paired by itself.

What the app asks for, and why

Send SMS
To send the messages Routely hands it, from this phone's SIM. It does not read your messages.
Camera
Only to scan the pairing QR code. You can type the code instead and never allow it.
Notifications
Android requires a notice while an app keeps running to send. It is how you see the phone is ready.
Battery use
Set to unrestricted so the phone keeps sending with the screen off.
Phone state
To see which SIMs are in the phone, so you can choose the one that sends.

Good to know

The phone's SIM pays

Each SMS is charged by your network the way a message you type is. Routely adds no fee per message.

Keep it on and connected

The phone must be switched on with Wi-Fi or mobile data. The dashboard shows its battery and network, and shows it offline when it is not reachable.

Two SIMs

On a phone with two SIMs, the app's Send from card lets you choose which one sends.

One phone for each gateway

Pairing another phone to a gateway signs the first one out. To use two phones, add two gateways.

  • Pair a phone by scanning the QR code, or type the pairing code when the camera cannot be used.
  • Send the messages Routely hands over from the phone's own SIM, with a choice of SIM on phones that have two.
  • Each message shows Sent, then Delivered or Not delivered, in the dashboard's history.
  • Results are kept on the phone until Routely has them, so a dropped connection does not lose them.
  • See today's sent, delivered and failed counts, and the recent messages with the number partly hidden.
  • The dashboard shows the phone's battery, charging state and network, and updates by itself.
  • A Status switch pauses sending, and the dashboard shows the phone offline straight away.
  • A Needs attention list says when SMS permission, notifications or background running are missing.
  • The app signs itself out if the gateway is removed or another phone is paired.
